Passenger
transport telematics groups INFORM and RTIG, the Real-Time
Information Group, have announced proposals to merge and form a new
organisation, RTIG-INFORM.
The
new organisation aims to maintain the core operational focus of the
current groups. This will include the development of specifications
and guidance, research and reports, as well as undertake national
negotiations and procurements including the Framework Contract for
communication services.Group
events such as INFORMation Days, RTIG workshops and the INFORM Annual
Conference will continue and be strengthened by the larger membership
base.
Nigel
Hutton, INFORM Chair commented: “This is a great opportunity for
our two organisations to go forward and make a bigger contribution to
developments in the telematics sector, bringing together RTIG’s
undoubted strengths in Real Time Information with INFORM’s broader
role in promoting knowledge in the wider telematics arena.”
A
formal vote to proceed with the plan will take place among the
members within both organisations later in October 2008. If
approved, the new organisation will begin operations in April 2009.
